Kyle Kennedy met with a treasure hunter who claimed to have seen Spanish coins dated 1694 and 1695 off the Lantana beach. The coins were found within 200 ft of a buried ship structure. Based on the coins proximity to the buried structure, there was a great deal of speculation that the buried ship would have been from 1695. With that speculation, Seafarer pursued obtaining a 1A-31 permit to explore and identify the wreck.
